Kentucky Derby Fashion

Go baby, go!!! It's one of the most wonderful times of the year in the Bluegrass state - filled with mint juleps, horse racing, and {of course} big hats! The Kentucky Derby is one of my favorite "seasons" to celebrate because of our wonderful state's rich heritage, culture, and history.  I mean, what says "Kentucky" more than bourbon and betting on the ponies?!

Since I have been in school for the past...well...forever, I haven't really been able to dive into all of the pomp and circumstance of the Derby...until this year!  Below, I am so ecstatic to share some of my favorite hats, fascinators, and attire that will be perfect for all of Derby season.

Dress // Lilly Pulitzer
Fascinator // That Cute Little Shop

Lilly Pulitzer and the Kentucky Derby go hand-in-hand! Bright colors and patterns paired with a colorful fascinator or hat are the perfect combination for a winning Derby outfit.  Plus, you can order these fascinators from That Cute Little Shop by phone; or if you stop by one of their stores in Louisville, Elizabethtown, or Lebanon, you can personalize your own with feathers and accessories from their feather bar!

Since Kentucky spring weather is questionable to say the least, we never know if Derby will be sunny, chilly, or rainy.  Having a long sleeve dress option is always a good idea!

What screams southern femininity more than blue seersucker and big bows?!  I adore this Lauren James number and a simple feather fascinator to match.

Yet another gorgeous Lauren James option...and this one makes me feel like Belle from Beauty and the Beast!

Top // Draper James
Skirt // Draper James
Fascinator // Peacock on Third

Draper James knows exactly how to do southern class.  This fun and classic white + black look with a pop of blue is perfect for Thurby.  What is Thurby, you ask?  It is the what is known as "Louisville's Day at the Track", when locals gravitate to Churchill Downs for our own Derby experience.  We still sip on mint juleps and dress up in the finery of fascinators, hats, dresses, and suits...but without the fuss of crowds and overpriced tickets.

On Oaks Day, we wear pink!! That's how the saying goes, right?  The Kentucky Oaks race is for Thoroughbred fillies and held the day before Derby.  Women and men alike don all shades of pink for this race day and sip on the signature Lily cocktail, in honor of the large garland of lilies presented to the winner.

***I'll post my official Derby attire closer to time with photos at Churchill Downs...
so y'all stay tuned!!!***

Southern-Inspired Spring Floral Arrangement

Mom and I attended a session at our local Pier 1 for spring floral arrangements last year...and we had a blast! If you and your girlfriends are looking for a fun afternoon activity, I recommend hitting up Pier 1 for one of these get-togethers!  The best part about this arrangement? It's faux!  So no watering necessary - which is perfect because I don't have even a hint of a green thumb.

As I was dusting off my spring decor over the last few weeks and setting it out for display, this feminine and southern-inspired arrangement kept me smiling and bringing all of the spring/summer feels.  And I couldn't help but want to share these same cheery feelings with you!

I started browsing Pier 1's website to see if they still had the pieces for this handmade floral bouquet that I put together last year - and they do!  So, without further ado, here are the "ingredients" for my favorite faux spring floral arrangement.

Now, arrange away!! {Personal tip: I like having my longer sprays give the illusion of "spilling over" the spout of the pitcher}
